+ LA VUELTA A ESPAÑA

STAGE 21: Today, Angel Casero overcame an overnight 25 second deficit to win the 2001 Edition of La Vuelta a Espana. In relegating young Oscar Sevilla to second place, Casero delivered Team Festina with its first-ever, and for at least the immediate future, only Grand Tour.

The 38 km stage was won in fine fashion by Colombian strongman Santiago Botero, who edged emerging American star Levi Leipheimer by only 14 seconds. Leipheimer, although disappointed to miss out on a stage win, was overjoyed to climb the final podium, and becomes the first-ever American to do so.

Lookout for our wrap-up coverage of the Vuelta tomorrow.
