|Seattle-Subaru of America - Western Region, NewsRadio 710 KIRO and Cascade Bicycle Club present the nation's third largest consumer bicycle show, the Subaru Seattle International Bicycle Expo, March 1 - 3, 2002 at the Stadium Exhibition Center. This Expo offers the latest in Bicycling trends and products of today: travel, bikes of every variety, clothing, deals, rides, indoor test track, tours and more. This year's 15th annual event features over 150 exhibits, coupled with workshops, demonstrations, and presentations by nationally recognized cyclists and adventurers -including Andy Hampsten, John Greengo, Tim Bailey and John Stamstad.|
Bicycle enthusiasts of all ages are invited to attend. Come check out the newest gear and great rides of 2002, set-up a tailored fitness program, and witness The Flow Show, featuring Flow Riders from Vancouver, BC's North Shore who will perform some of the most extravagant, exciting, extensive, and extreme mountain bike stunts on the planet.
About the Speakers:
Andy Hampsten-The first American to win the Tour of Italy (Giro d'Italia) in 1988,also the first, and until 2001 the only, American to win the Tour de France's most prestigious stage, L'Alpe d'Huez. Hampsten will discuss racing and training and answer questions related to touring, fitness tips
and bike fit.
John Greengo and Tim Bailey-Seattle adventures will recount their exciting story of travelling across the continent's most remote wilderness in a
custom watercraft - part canoe, part bicycle. In a 70-minute multi-projector presentation, John and Tim will re-tell their experience of pedaling over 1,000 miles down Canada's longest river to the Arctic Ocean in 34 days, loaded with 360 pounds of supplies in a pedal-powered canoe.
John Stamstad-A member of the Mountain Bike Hall of Fame, John is a 15-year veteran of off-road cycling accomplishments. John has won a version of the Alaska Iditasport, (a non-stop race in Winter) every year from 1993-2000, and holds the World record for riding off-road for 24 hours. He has won more 24-hour solo mountain bike races than any other cyclist in history. He has been featured in Outside, Sports Afield, USAToday, BIKE, CBS Sports, National Geographic and many others. John will present a video of his record setting ride on the world's longest and most scenic mountain bike route, the Great Divide, and will share his experiences of Alaska's Iditasport, 24-hour racing and the Race Across Australia.
Cascade Bicycle Club Education Foundation is donating 100 helmets to the first children to participate in its Bike Rodeo - a hands-on safety and
skills event for kids 4 to 12 years old. Other activities include nutrition & fitness workshops, a photo contest, Seattle To Portland Bicycle Classic
training program seminars and more.
Bike Expo is open Friday, March 1 from 4 PM to 8 PM; Saturday, March 2 from 10 AM - 7 PM, and Sunday, March 3 from 10 AM to 5 PM.
