Capagnolo's Bora Carbon Wheelset

12/10/2002
The new full-carbon Bora wheels are the fruit of the know-how and production technology developed by Campagnolo over the last few years.

Campagnolo have completely redesigned our BORA wheels using carbon fiber as the raw material. The rims and hub bodies are made entirely in structural carbon, a material which, like for like, guarantees a reduction in weight with an increase in fatigue life.

The carbon rims have a 50mm deep section which makes them extremely aerodynamic. This feature, combined with extreme lightness, means that Bora wheels are products of the highest quality and maximum reliability. The braking surfaces in composite material require special dedicated pads which are supplied with the wheel and are available as spare parts.

HPW-type hubs have variable-section carbon bodies and spherical surfaces, while the Record class internal components have the axle and freewheel body in light alloy and pawl carriers and pawls in titanium. The right-hand flange of the rear hub is in aluminum as in Hyperon wheels hubs, with the difference that the diameter is greater to further increase torsional rigidity.

The spokes are radial on the front wheel, while the rear wheel employs the G3 system to increase lateral and torsional rigidity. Doubling of the spokes on the right improves torque transmission and reduces their own maximum tensions at the same time. The aero variable-section spokes are in stainless steel with black finish.

An extraordinary pair of "full carbon" competition wheels weighing 1320g per pair.
