|Shimano has recently become aware of a potential problem with SM- SH92 cleats (Shimano part# Y43Y98030 / # Y43Y98031). As a precaution, Shimano is recalling these cleats, and offering free replacements to those consumers who are using them. Please read the following for details.|
Name of product: SM-SH92 (10° total float) cleats for SPD- R road pedals.
Potential Hazard: Unable to clip out of the pedal if the rear protrusion tab (A) breaks on SM-SH92 cleat.
Description: The affected cleat has engraved marking (B) with model # SM-SH92, visible even when the cleat is mounted on the shoe. SM-SH92 cleats were sold as aftermarket product since 1999. The cleats are compatible and are designed to be used with all SPD-R pedal models - PD-7700 / 7701 / 6600 / 6601 / 5500 / R535.
The SM-SH91 (6° total float) cleats that are supplied with all SPD-R pedals and the after market product SM-SH90 fixed cleats are not affected by this recall. No other Shimano cleats are affected by this recall.
Sold at: SM-SH92 cleats were sold as after market product under Shimano part# Y43Y98030 / # Y43Y98031 at retail stores.
Remedy/Contact: Please go to your local Shimano dealer without delay to receive replacement cleats free of charge or to receive a discount of 20 EUR in the purchase of a pair of SPD-SL pedals (PD-7800, PD-R600 or PD-R540). Please note that if you wish to choose the option of the discount, you will need to submit your claim before the end of July 2004. The free replacement cleats will continue to remain available after that time.
