Slingshot Announces 2005 Factory Race Team
Slingshot's Factory Race Team has continued to evolve and expand over the past few years. This year, cyclists Toni Musto, Neil Scharphorn, and Jessica Woodard have signed on to join current team members, Danielle Musto, and Russ Tiles.

The new riders will help to build upon the team's existing experience and diversity. Woodard has earned a string of 1st place finishes in the past couple of years, including: 1st place in the Elite Women's CC Division at Pando, the Whiskey Creek Stage Race Elite Female Division, and the Expert Women’s category at the Mt. Snow NORBA Short Track.

Toni Musto, the younger sister of Danielle, is also expected be a significant asset to the team. This year, Toni was the Hammer/MMBA Series Champion, the Michigan Cup Champion in the All Expert Women’s Divisions, and she was also the Marquette Pioneer Surgical Technology Cup Champion. In 2003 she earned many 1st place finishes as well, including, the Cannonsburg Challenge XC, Boyne Challenge XC, and the Pando Challenge, in the Sport Women’s 29 & Under category.

As a new team member, local legend Neil Scharphorn will be building upon his regional achievements and going national. He was among the top finishers in several events this year, including: the T.K. Lawless MTB Time Trial, Keweenaw Chain Drive Fat Tire Cross Country, and the Yankee Springs MMBA Time Trial. Scharphorn plans to compete in the National Series and many of the largest races in the Midwest in 2005.

Existing team members, Danielle Musto and Russ Tiles, have also consistently excelled over the past few years, both locally and nationally. Tiles was the Michigan Cup Elite Point Series Champion in both 2001 and 2002, and has had a number of pro wins. This year he earned a 4th place finish at the Ore to Shore race, and a 9th place finish at the Chequamegon Fat Tire Festival. Tiles' extraordinary season however, was cut short due to an accident caused by an on coming vehicle while riding his motorcycle this past summer.

The elder Musto, Danielle, who specializes in 24 hour racing, is a two time winner of the 24 Hours of Boyne, and the 12 Hours of Pando. She has also earned trips to the world championships in both 2003 and 2004.

"We had so many fine performances in 2004 that I am super excited for all that 2005 has to offer," said Scott Templar, President of Slingshot Bicycle Company. "This year's team has really expanded upon our diversity, and depth," he added.
