![]() Sunlite Alloy Welded Bicycle Rear Rack with Spring By: SunLite Average Rating: 4.0 Total Reviews: 52 More Information Simply Outstanding!!!! Order this due to my old rack rusting off my mountain bike. Service was second to none and the rack itself was much better (quality wise) than I had expected. "Wicked"(yes, Im from Massachusetts originally) easy to install. Great company with great products. Racktasitc! Although, yes, there are no true instructions on mounting this rack to your pre-drilled frame. I did not find its installation difficult in the least. The bottom point on the lower arm adjuster was 26", as is my bike (although it will adjust 2 sizes larger). My frame just under the rear seat had prior attachment points, thanks to the fine folks at Scwinn, and the rest was logical deduction. Installed in about 10-15 minutes, as I was careful to "pre-install" keeping everything loose until I was satisfied with fit and leveling. I installed a pair of Sunlite Traveler 2 Bicycle Pannier Bags, which attached easily and maintain their grip to this rack via top clips and a bungie type strap that attaches to an axle connector that comes with this rack. Beautiful. Also, The spring on top helps to hold items in place quite nicely~ No problems at all to speak of. I highly recommend this rack to anyone interested in a quality rack for moderate loads and/or panniers. It FITS! I put this rack on my Trek 4300 mtn bike. I am slowly converting it to a commuter bike. Eventually an e-bike. My bike frame already had the bolt holes near the rear axle. The kit supplied the right bolts. Up top it also had the right attachemnt points and it had the allen bolts already in the frame. Go ahead and read the instructions. It takes an extra 2 mins and it saved me from firing up an extra three brain cells. It was that easy. By the way youll need two metric allen wrenches to install this rack on my bike, I believe it was a 5mm and 4mm. The larger size for the Trek bolts and the 4mm for the rack bolts. Rack is really stiff right now. Check back in 5K miles. Doesnt wiggle with a 50 lb load. Doesnt creak. Doesnt rattle. Spring has plenty of tension. Plenty of adjustment. There is a mount for a tailight. Am also adding Planet Bike 65mm wide fenders with mudflap so I can arrive at work clean. Exactly what I needed I didnt really have the problems others did with installing this rack, though Ill admit the user who provided the very helpful photo of the final result might have had a lot to do with that. The instructions are useless, but its pretty self-explanatory from looking at pictures online. I was able to attach all screws firmly except the one that goes behind the chain. Im not comfortable trying to remove the chain so I just hand-tightened it, and it seems to be holding fine. The other three points of attachment are rock solid however and it doesnt rattle or move at all (Im riding a roughly 10-year-old Specialized and I luckily had all the pre-threaded holes needed). Im using it with a set of Nashbar Daytrekker Panniers and they go very well together. Very satisfied with this product! Give me a break What??? No instructions on how to hook up the bottom part of the rack!!!! what if my bike does not have the mounting screws factory installed??? This is definitely a mistake for me to buy this garbage!!! It is not universal at all..Dumb crap!!!! Great rack, but not a universal fit for all bikes Got this rack for a WalMart generic beach cruiser. A lot of the reviews here point out good and bad points. Ill give my 2 cents here: 1. It is not a universal rack. Some bikes may have problems. For me, the attachment points for the seatpost brackets were just not there on my bike, so I had to fabricate my own adapter. Used some p-clamps from the hardware store, and voila!, attachments points are now available. 2. The lower attachment point may also be a problem depending on your specific bike and its frame. Worked OK on my bike. This model is not designed for bikes with disc brakes. 3. Assembly was a little rough as the instructions were not well-written. If you can figure out how to attach (its not impossible) youll probably be OK. After I got it all assembled and attached, and now after about 6 months of use, I can honestly say that this rack is solid, reliable, and practical. No squeaks, and nothing has come loose. Its got good points of attachment if you want to use bungie cords, and the side brackets work well to keep soft panniers from getting tangled in the wheels. Very good rack, not perfect .... but I dont know if you can find a perfect rack. Good Product for the money This rack was very easy to install (less then 5mins) on My Diamondback Wildwood Citi, Your bike will need to have the mounting points allready on it for this rack to fit properly. The instructions where alittle weak but its a bike rack and not a Saturn V rocket so I just chucked it aside and installed it without any instructions. Ive been riding with this and it does not rattle at all. It is built strong and light. I am very happy with it. Rear Rack Fit my mountain bike good.Lets me take all kinds of stuff when I go on a long road trip. Doesn't Fit Trek 7.2 FX This rack wont fit on my Trek 7.2 FX. The little arms on the front are too close together to fit on the bike. I managed (with serious force) to contort them on, but one of the bolts fell off after about a month. Id recommend getting a decent rack from a real company thats able to put actual instructions with their product. Its Ok. But expected more The spring is not that tight. When I keep my bag at the back it always tends to slide to the side. Rest is pretty good. It is very sturdy, easy to fix If you're "handy", this is a cinch I mounted this on a Jamis Commuter 2.0 If you do some assembling of various products that are out there, yes, in comparison these directions are vague as described in other reviews. I have a background in it thus I just used ye old deductive reasoning and common sense, aka; yer knoggin, lol. I found the racks hardware to be high quality and well thought out, only one "wrench" needed (get yourself one of those pen knife looking metric allen key folding sets, around $10 at your local home center), all the threads were well done and spun on easily. The adjustable bike size feature is even marked with wheel size! This rack is extendable both horizontally and vertically, so for those looking for a "longer" looking rack (as I was), this one certainly fits that need. My only neg is that I wanted a silver/aluminum color, but I see most bike racks are all black nowadays. Lets ride! great company I purchased this rack and sack - sadly, it did not fit. The people at the company were VERY pleasant and tried their best to help me. I had to return the product and they were again, just amazing. I would purchase from them again and will tell all my biking friends about this excellent company. Kat Avoid This purchase is my first disappointment dealing with an Amazon vendor. Do not waste your money on this item. Why? Because: a. This item has small pieces that are easy to lose b. Assembly required c. Assembly instructions are sparse and written by someone for whom English is a third language Items which require assembly really should have instructions written by someone who understands English if sold in an English-speaking country. Good Looking Rack, May Not Fit Your Bike The rack looks good and is sturdy, however, although Amazon says "This rack fits almost any bike and is one of the best racks out there for the price, 815g with hardware" -- this is not true. We tried to put it on a Schwin bike -- hardly an unknown brand -- and the rack does not come with the required parts. In order to fit your back with this rack, you must have 2 predrilled and threaded holes at the top of the rear fork, OR you must drive somewhere and find an adapter bracket, which they do not provide. So Amazons writeup on this rack is very misleading, and its too bad the manufacturer didnt think to provide the adapter brackets so that it really does fit commonly made bikes. Strong Rack, Pain To Attach This rack is sturdy and fits my hybrid bike. It is strong, will support quite a bit of weight, but it on was a real pain to put together. The fitting adjusters come apart easily and are tricky to reassemble. Also, the plastic cap ends on the rods come off easily and can cause the adjusters to slid off the rods. M. Nylands advice was helpful, but a good set of instruction are needed, better yet a different adjuster. It might be a good idea to have someone help you attach the rack. If I ever take it off Id consider putting it on Craigslist and buying something easier to work with. Secure and Quiet As everyone else has mentioned, the installation instructions that come with this rack are completely useless, however I figured it out on my own with relative ease and it only took maybe 10 minutes to install the rack. Once installed it feels very sturdy and makes no additional noise which surprised me. I expected at least a little rattling, but it is virtually silent even when riding over bumpy roads (My house is on a cobblestone road) Great rack, and highly recommended. May not be compatible with hybrids I bought this for my Fuji Crosstown 2.0 hybrid to commute to school. The seat stay brackets (arms that attach to the bike near the seat)are too short which causes the rack to tilt forward on my bike. Unless you have the resources to fabricate your own brackets I recommend looking elsewhere if you want this rack for a hybrid bike. Overall, the rack is very nice and installing it is very doable if you just fiddle around with it a bit. Nice rack Its functional and it works as specified. Holds my Velocipak panniers just great. The instructions gave a general description of how the rack would be assembled but it didnt really describe how it attached to the bike which left me in mystery when putting it on meant I felt like I was pulling it apart trying to spread it wide enough to mount near the drops. But, other than that, installation was intuitive enough that it didnt really need instruction. Cannondale riders, beware Two complaints about what is generally a very good product: 1) I have the same complaints everyone else has about the instructions--theyre just about worthless; and 2) I have a Cannondale Adventure 3 and found that the bottom pieces of the rack (the part that adjusts based on the bikes size) are too fat to make it possible to screw them into the frame of the bike. I had to use thin wire, similar to what youd use to hang pictures, to tie the rack to the bike via the holes in the frame. great, except for the incomprehensible instructions I agree with other reviewers who have criticized the installation instructions that come with the rack. Theyre worthless. Fortunately, the photos posted online by people who have bought the rack are very helpful. Took me about a half hour to install and it has been a great product. My bicycle now functions like a small station wagon. The spring clamp makes lots of bungee cords unnecessary. Good Bike Rack I recently purchased the Sunlite bike rack, and have been pleased. I replaced my old rack with it and have been very satisfied. The spring loaded clamp is useful as are the numerous ways you can bungie various things to be carried. Had some issues with this. This is a nice rack with a sleek look to it and the bag I bought to go with it fits nicely. That being said, the rack was not all that easy to install. The hardware did not include brackets in the chance that your bike doesnt already have pre-drilled holes for the support arms, I had to go to a bike shop to get these. The brackets that you tighten to adjust the height of the frame, what they call "spring retention systems", easily stripped thus the frame would not stay in place. I ended up, after dealing with it for hours, going to a bike shop and having them drill permanent holes into the bottom brackets so that it would stay in place. After all the headache that this rack brought me over the past couple of days, I am glad that I had the guys at the bike shop drill the holes and secure the frame for the extra $20. It would of cost more to send it back and wait for another one to come in. Choose your rack wisely and maybe have it professional installed. Not a bad piece After reading the reviews already here, it was pretty simple to install. Took a minute to figure out that the bottom pieces were adjustable and on my 26" bike, I had to use the 700C setting. The top pieces were a bit hard to get the screws started, but once started, was a piece of cake. Im buying another for my wifes bike. Bike Rack Product is sturdy and everything I expected. The instructions were terrible. I consider myself handy and have put many items together. After a few hours of frustration, I had it installed at a bike shop. (It was not easy for them either.) Nice Rack worth the money I bought this rack after searching through the numerous styles and brands available. Installation did require me to drill 2 small holes in the fram though. I really didnt mind as long as the rack was sturdy and attractive. I do no regret my purchase and recommend this product to anyone. The bike it was installed on is a GMC yukon mountain bike. spring bike rack great product!! strong and works well. However sketchy directions so made it a bit difficult to assemble. Quality Rack! The rack is very sturdy and well built. I have sat on the rack and I am 190 lbs and it holds me up. The lower bolt area is on the wide side for my bike so it makes me increase the height of the rack in order for it to fit properly. Overall very well made! Get it! A Wonderful Bike Rack. This is a very nice and sturdy bike rack. It took a little longer than I thought (15 minutes) to assemble it but finally got it and have been very impressed with it. High Quality Rack Honestly, the pictures on this product page sold this product to me. Thanks to the kind reviewer who took the time to post them. Every rear bike rack I would see in the stores in my area was the kind that connected on the seat post. Unfortunately, I dont have enough room on my bikes (Schwinn Suburban Cruiser) seat post for another fitting. I had to find another option. Lucky for me, this rack is a perfect fit! This rack mounts to the bike using pre-drilled holes on the frame. If you are questioning whether or not your bike has these holes, just look at the picture above on this page that shows how the silver arms of the rack connect to the bike. If you do not see holes in the same spot on your bike, you may want to avoid this product. Im guessing, however, that these holes may be a new industry standard because both recently purchased Schwinn bikes I own have them. As mentioned a thousand times already, the instructions are horrible. Even so, I was able to easily install it with no problems within minutes of opening the box. It looks great on my bike and is very solid. I couldt be happier and am now convinced that this is THE BEST rear bike rack available. Check For Compatibility with other Bike Accessories This rack has a nice powder black finish and feels really sturdy. It also seems to be greatly adjustable to fit whatever bike frame you might have. However, for a novice bicyclist, the instructions were way too brief and I could not figure out how in the world to get it on my bike. It ends up I had to return the rack anyway, though, because it was not compatible with the rear bike basket I bought in the same order - the basket is a Top Peak rear basket with a nice clip in feature, but you need to have their special back rack for it to clip into. It would have been nice if Amazon had information about required pieces and compatibility. Great rack, horrible instructions Everyone has said it, and theyre right. This is a great rack; the instructions are awful. I had some installation troubles that were largely related to the moronic diagram included with this rack. It comes with two sets of mounting arms: short and long. I stared at this hunk of metal for 15 minutes before I figure out that I was supposed to end up with extra parts. I also had a heck of a time keeping the arms from falling apart as I was attaching them to the bike. However, once youve figured out which arms to use (with no suggestion from the idiot-sheet), and adjust the height at the bottom of the rails, it turns out to be a great little rack. Its very sturdy, doesnt rattle or make any noise, and its pretty inexpensive. I dont really know what to do with the spring-loaded back end, but I know its there, waiting for me to find something useful for it to do. I also bought a Sunlite pannier to go with it. It fits pretty well, but the clips are a little long. To correct this, I flipped over the two clip points on the bottom of the rack so theyre lower to the ground. Piece of cake. Now that I know how to put it together, Id certainly buy another one. For the first go-around, though, have patience or find one that tells you how to put piece A into slot B. Lightweight and Sturdy! The rack arrived slightly damaged (scratched paint) and the instructions do leave much to be desired; however, its an awesome addition to my peugeot! I did have to bend the arms to get the right fit, though. Nice Strong Bike Rack Got this Bike Rack in the mail in just a few days, fast service, easy install, Looks & works great, Good place to buy parts from. Great rack...terrible mountning instructions Recently began the effort to mount this very well crafted rack on my wifes bike. Although the rack itself is attractive, sturdy and appears to be very suitable for her purposes, the instructions for putting it on the bike consisted of a small scrap of paper with a barely viewable photograph of the forward part of the rack. I was able to Google a set of instructions for another rack which I think will enable me to get the rack on the bike. Worthless instructions. As noted elsewhere in the reviews for this product, the written instructions are terrible. If you have some mechanical skill, or know someone who does, its quite possible to install this unit. On my bike, I had to remove the rear wheel in order to bolt the lower connection point to the bike, because the bolts have to be inserted from the inside. The top connection point on my bike was the handle of the fork that goes from the seatpost to the rear hub. There were two bolts, one on either side of the fork handle - I removed them, then reattached them with the attachment arms of the rack on the bolts. This seems to be a good quality product - well designed and sturdy. Great stuff Liked it so much, I immediately got another one for my wifes bike as well. they were easy to install, the panier bags fit perfectly on the sides, only con: it is difficult to find read lights that you can mount to it, even though it has a mounting bracket, I guess for a reflector at the back (so it might be more the fault of the rear light manufacturers). Frustrating instructions Product description says that it fits almost every bike, but apparently not mine! Also, the instructions are practically worthless. This does look like a great rack though and Im sure if it fit on my bike I would be fully satisfied. Installation Not For The Mechanically Uninclined I was so excited to get this rack so Id have more room for hauling water when my Husky and I go bikejoring. Well, after struggling with the practically non-existant instructions and watching a not quite helpful tutorial video on expertvilliage, I finally had to give up. Im pretty handy, in general, and I didnt have a clue with this one! I still give it all stars because its a quality product and its not the racks fault my mountain bike is 12 years old. I just took the bike down to my friendly neighborhood bike shop owner and he had it fixed up in no time. He ended up having to drill a hole in the frame and use a piece not included with the installation hardware, but now its on perfectly and I couldnt be happier. So be prepared to seek out help as it may come to that. Its sturdy and lightweight, what more can you ask....and priced right. Very satisfied! eh... So... everything seemed to be in order. I got the product relatively quickly, and it looks quite nice. I mounted the little arms on the bike and then went to mount the rack on the bolt holes near the rear axle... and the bolts didnt fit. the holes on the bike are too big for the bolts that came with the rack. So... attempt one at mounting the rack: unsuccessful. Ill go buy additional hardware (bolts) tomorrow (losing points sunlite...) and see if I can mount that bad boy. It was a big dissapointment. And the instructions are quite a joke. Mine came with one picture and vague, relatively worthless instructions. I think that trying to figure them out would take more time than just putting the rack on without them. Ill update the post based on what happens with the new bolts. Great rack at a great price! I received this rack FAST...within four days of placing my order. It was packed with instructions and parts, including some extra hardware that I will carry in my tool kit. The instructions are very vague, but I was fortunate that the fitting arms came assembled, and didnt have to figure it out. Referring to the picture here helped me to see how the arms attached to the rack, and it wasnt difficult to see from there where the other end of the upper arms would attach to my bike. Ive posted a couple of other pictures that might help others with assembly. My Trek 7100 had threaded holes on the rear of the frame, Im guessing for just such an accessory. Once I dug out the right hex keys (a 4mm for rack bolts and a 5mm for the bike bolts), the installation took under fifteen minutes. The rack seems very rugged, and I am anxious to use it. After that, I suspect Ill be back to give it that fifth star. Great rack at a great price! I received this rack FAST...within four days of placing my order. Once it is on the bike it is on there very good...no rattling around, etc. Very easy to strap almost anything on to it. I purchased one of their bags at the same time so it is a very nice fit. I agree with the other reviewers that the instructions (if you can call them that) that come with the product are just worthless. The only reason I did not give it Five Stars is because of this. And their website also does not have anything else to fall back on. Rather than frustrate yourself with the supplied directions make sure you have your bike right in front of you along with the online picture of the rack itself itself...it is really easier to figure it out on your own. So let me try to explain best I can... FIRST --Attaching this to your bike is dependent upon the frame having pre-threaded holes on it for the bolts that come with the rack. This must be some kind of industry standard. But I did not understand this part going into it which is why I was frustrated So look at your frame and make sure you have the pre-tapped holes both at the top part of the rear frame where it starts coming down to the rear tire and down where the rear tire itself fits in. My bike had "place holder" bolts already in these holes to stop debris from getting inside so I removed them and used the longer screws that came with the rack. See the silver/chrome parts of the rack in the picture... First you will have to attach the angled parts to the top of the rack with the little U-shaped bracket pieces. But dont tighten it down yet. They should remain loose and flexible at this point. Magnify the online photo to see this more clearly. The bottom silver parts adjust up/down depending on the type of tire you have... Notice at the end of each of these four silver pieces are holes where the bolt will go through. These holes line up with the pre-theaded holes on your bike frame. So slip the bolt and washer through and tighten them down to the bike frame first but still just a tiny bit loose. Then push the rack around a bit to make sure it is level and straight. This is the reason why we did not fully tighten the top silver parts to the rack itself earlier so that we would have this flexibility. Once you are satisfied everything is level...crank ALL down bolts very tight. At this point go ahead and grab the rack and pick up your whole bike that way....you will see how solidly it is on there. Enjoy! Best one I"ve seen yet I looked at several racks here and at bike shops locally. This one is very solid and fully adjustable,a must have feature because I have seen some that were not level with the bike. Highly recommended. Highly recommended. rear bike rack This is a very well built and strong rear bike rack. The instructions for installation are very poor. Once I got it installed, I was impressed with the four points connections to the bike and how well engineered it seemed to be. The instructions say it can hold up to 50 pounds and I am sure it can. The spring holder is very strong also. I really like the rear rack. I got some saddle bags to go with it so I can pack some items when I go out on my bike for a day trip. I looked in some bike stores and did not find this kind of rack. I found it on Amazon and it has worked just great on my bike. Extremely Pleased I ordered this rear rack and Sunlite saddle bags for my Raleigh Grand Sport road bike. The rack is sturdy, easy-to-install, and I love that I can use it on my mountain bike, too, should the need arise. Did have to do a little extra work on the upper mount due to the bike not having the type of universal mounting that the rack was evidently made for, but this was a minor problem. Great, once we figured out how to install it The rack is lightweight, a nice matte black, and fit perfectly over my 700cc wheels - its nice to have the ability to switch among three wheel sizes. I was able to attach a couple of pannier baskets with very few problems. However, the installation process was something of a pain. The directions are not totally clear - they consist of an exploded view of all the components and some very basic instructions on how to install the rack over the back tire of the bike. One of the screws stripped immediately when we started installing the rack. There were also no directions on how to fix the "arms" of the rack (the silver ones on the left side of the rack in the image) to the main body of the bike - it took a lot of guesswork and some tinkering to figure out what we needed to do since we hadnt installed this kind of bike rack on a bike before. Good product It fits my extra sized Motobecane. and my wifes womens Schwinn Sidewinder 24". Had a funny thing happen on the trail . It (The rack) fell backwards pivioting on the rear axel, With the sunlite bag full of "stuff".(which the bag is cool too) The screw had worked loose on the bike attachment . After many mile on bumpy trails I might have tightened all the screws/bolts up . The ones under the bag also worked loose, helping the mishap along. Anyway fine product.
