Mine seem to light up pretty well

Mine are actually green. The seem to be a little brighter than a similar brand that i think is called Tire flies. Not super bright but better than nothing. Goes well with my Down Low Glow Lighting Kit - Two Tubes-Envy(green) The only issue I have with them is that the light stays on even in the day time, wasting your battery whenever you are moving, whether you need the lighting or not. I also use Planet Bike Blinky Super Flash 1/2-Watt Blaze LED Plus 2 eXtreme LED Rear Bicycle Light and Planet Bike Beamer 3 LED Bicycle Light with Quick Cam Bracket Mount

These do not always light up on my childs bike. I dont think children go fast enough to make them light reliably. Not much good as a safety feature.
