Good Bibs for the Price     On: 2006-07-12

Ive been using a pair of Castelli YPro bib shorts for over a year now and theyve been worn pretty thin, so I started looking for a new pair of bib shorts. I quickly found out that this is no easy task. There are so many makers and types of bike shorts that choosing the right one is difficult. The most difficult part of the process is that most local bike shops carry a very (and I mean very) limited selection of shorts and trying different brands on wasnt really an option for me. I basically had to research all the brands and make an educated guess. So after talking to several people and reading countless reviews and forums, I chose the Giordana Silverline Cycling Bib Shorts. I chose them because of price (I had a $100 budget) and customer feedback on bicycle supply web sites. I ordered them from Gearlink.com for $71.99 and I recieved them very quickly.

When I first took them out of the box, I was impressed by the feel of the Lycra fabric. They didnt feel cheap like the crappy $50 Castelli Dome bib shorts I got off ebay. The pad was different than the Castellis Id been because the YPro padding was more of a fabric type padding, the Silverline are a foamier type pad. When I put them on I noticed the straps have a tendency to roll up on my shoulders, but once they were on they stayed in place. Other than that the shorts felt really good and suppportive. They also look great with the grey striping and the Giordana logo on the back.

After about 75 miles on the road they felt pretty good, not great but good. Im not sure if I need to wear them in or what, but the padding feels a little slippery for the first few miles. Once I get a sweat going they dont slip anymore and are quite comfortable. The shorts stay in place and the Lycra fabric kept my skin cool and tight.

Im pretty happy with them so far and at this point I really feel I got a good deal for what I paid. I hope my two cents helps you on your next purchase of bib shorts.
These are worth the money     On: 2006-05-29

Ive tried to save some cash when I bought bike shorts - I will no longer do that. After considerable shopping and trying on many shorts I purchased Giordanas Silverline bib shorts. They are wonderful. The chamois in these is far more comfortable than my other shorts and my legs felt comfortable even 40 miles into a hard ride (well, as comfortable as one could hope). My only complaint is the suspender straps are a bit snug. If you are standing up, they pull down a little harder than is desired. When I am on my road bike and over the handlebars, I do not notice a problem. Giordana has made some nice shorts. They are recommended by BICYCLING magazine as the best shorts to get under $100.00. They are, without a doubt. I look forward to buying a jersey from the same line by Giordana.
