Good Quality But NOT Very Hi Rise     On: 2009-03-07

While in the process of turning my old 90 Trek 970 into a "comfort" bike I needed to raise the handle bars. This seemed like the ticket. I was going to order the Kalloy adjustable stem but this seemed to be a simpler and more sturdy option.

Well the quality of the part is fine. The construction is steel as per the description not aluminum as stated in one of the previous reviews. The problem I had with the part is the amount of additional rise is minimal. It serves a better purpose of moving the bars closer to the saddle (which I didnt want) because of its more upright design but it does not raise the bars very much. The minimum insertion mark on the part and the picture shown on Amazon seem to be at odds. In order for me to achieve the same amount of extension as shown in the photo the entire insertion mark was exposed. Not safe or acceptable to me.

I returned the Delta Hi Rise and instead bought the Kalloy Adjustable stem. The Kalloy did what I needed and while it may require a little more attention in the long run simply do to the fact that it has additional fasteners to keep tight, it allowed me to place my handle bars exactly where I wanted them and made the overall ride position on the almost "vintage" :) bike much more comfortable.

It is just what I was looking for for my wifes bike. She needed a higher stem for better ride position, and better grasp of the shift levers. This stem gave us the height without pushing the handlebar away from her, aggravating the shifter problem. It is also high quality. I was very impressed with the selection of stems available from Amazon - better than the pure bike store sites.

Very nice rise.

all aluminium

Screws that are provided are almost too short.
good for the price

A good solid stem. The only problem I found was that the two allen-bolts which hold the bracket for the handle bars were too short for my bike. I had to go get a new pair from HomeDepot. Be forewarned the thread is metric. Other than that has a hefty solid feel to it. It is long enough where you can adjust the heigt as needed.
