Great bottle when used as advised     On: 2008-09-28

First let me say that WalMart has these bottles for $3.00 and that price includes 10 on-the-go lemonade drink mixes! We bought a dozen of these because I am tired of buying, storing and recycling plastic water bottles and finding them half full and wasted at the end of the day.
The manufacturers, and Amazons, description states that these are NOT leakproof, so to give the product poor reviews because it has leaked when it was dumped over or left in the bottom of your purse or bag seems unfair as that is a user issue, not a product issue.
These bottles fit in the cupholders of all three of our cars and our boat. They are easy to hold, easy to fill and easy to clean. We will be buying a dozen more to keep in our camper!
best water bottle made     On: 2008-06-30

I ride my bike a lot, and need a durable bottle that can use long turm, this really fits the bill. wide mouth for puting ice in and fit the water bottle holder on the bike. easy drink top. I carry daily to work weather im riding my bike or not.
the best bottle     On: 2008-06-08

I have several of this style of water bottle in a variety of colors. I love this water bottle. I am a sailor who not always has two hands available to open other types of water bottles. I love this one because it only takes one hand to open and it is easy for me to secure it to the boat. It does occasionally pops open unexpectedly, but I have been tweaking the lid to make it a little more secure.
Nalgene Water Bottle is a great design     On: 2008-02-08

I like this bottle because it is easy to open with one hand. You can pop the top while you are driving and not drive distracted. It seals well and does not leak.
Doesn't stay closed     On: 2008-01-22

The top is easy to flip up, and so is good for use in a car or for other one-handed uses, but it has several times come open and dumped all the water into my shopping bag or purse or car seat. Its ruined my papers and other personal items too many times, so I ended up throwing it away.
Awesome for working out     On: 2008-01-21

This water bottle fits most cardio machines at the gym. It is very convenient to be able to take a sip while you are still working out since you just have to flip the top. Yes, this bottle will leak if it tips over - so you just use it in situations where thats not likely to happen. This is my favorite workout bottle.
LOVE THIS BOTTLE!!!     On: 2008-01-07

I bought one of these products for myself several months back in an attempt to stop buying so much bottled water--I fell in love with it instantly. I especially love the narrow mouth, the slim design (fits easily into my work bag), the easy to carry loop at the top (even when my hands are full, I can pick this up with my pinky!), and the ability to open and close it with one hand (like when Im driving). I also love the colors. I love this bottle so much, I bought several to give as earth-friendly holiday gifts! (and the several that I own for my own use have never spilled open or leaked water from the top, as other reviewers have said).
Lots half the water when it tipped over for a couple of minutes.     On: 2007-11-11

the bottle easily tips over and the water leaks every wear. Only good for the cup holder in my car.
It's an ok water bottle     On: 2007-10-12

My daughter (whos in first grade) has to take a water bottle to school every day. I bought several water bottles and this is my least favorite one for her. Its a nice, good quality water bottle... but just not the best for kids. It doesnt leak when the lids shut-- so thats great, but it has a very large opening and when tipped over with the lid open a LOT of water comes pouring out.
leaking problem     On: 2007-08-28

I thought I would just counter to the previous reviewer who said that their bottle leaked. I know it doesnt display it on this product page but if you go onto the nalgene website it describes that unlike their other bottles this one is NOT leak proof!
Great bottle except for top     On: 2007-08-12

I love this bottle--it is just the right size, does not add taste to the water, very convenient. Only problem--it is too easy to open, and I have had problems with spills when I carry it in a pack. That is why I am looking for a bottle just like this, with a more secure top.
Serious Design Flaw     On: 2007-07-23

The nalgene company uses great material and these are virtually indestructible. Also, they are machine washable and they dont absorb tastes or odors, preserving the integrity of whatever you put in there. The only problem, and it is a big one, with the OTG design is that they leak easily. I often find the cap opening on its own if left by itself. Leaks and spills are practically synonymous with the lacking latch design. I would recommend buying another type of nalgene.
Great bottle!     On: 2007-07-08

I bought two of these and am very happy with them. I got them because I needed bottles for the car. They fit the cup holders perfectly.
I wont put them in a backpack so I am not worried about the top flipping open.
buy it if you like leaking all over your bag     On: 2007-06-07

this bottle is terrible. it pops open on its own. unreliable. I bought two and I am going to retire BOTH.
great bottle -- very convenient     On: 2007-05-17

This bottle is great. I dont know how people drink from those wide-mouthed bottles without sloshing the liquid all over themselves. This has a narrow opening, and you dont need to bother screwing anything to drink. The lid comes off and goes in the dishwasher. The downside is that the lid can flip open if its jostled or rubbed against, so this isnt a bottle you can put inside a bag rubbing against other things. I keep it in the water bottle net pouch on the outside of my backpack (which I use every day to go to work, etc.), and Ive only had it spill a couple of times (usually when I put it down on the floor, forget about it, and end up kicking it around).

Overall, the ease of taking a drink and convenient dishwasher safety make this bottle great.
One critical flaw...     On: 2007-05-10

I love Nalgene bottles, and this one has some killer features, but suffers one critical flaw: the smaller drinking opening isnt very secure and can open accidentally leading to spills. I have had this bottle for more than 6 months now (in blue) and use it extensively. It addresses the critical issue of wide mouth versus narrow mouth. Wide mouths are more convenient for putting in powder mixes but are hard to drink from without spilling. Narrow mouths are easy to drink from, but hard to get powders into and hard to clean. The genius of the OTG is that it has a wide mouth lid, with an easy to open small drinking port in the lid, integrated into a tough carrying loop. The trouble is that the drinking port cover has a friction tab closure. The upside is that you can open the drinking port with one hand and drink while working out. The downside is that if the bottle falls, the drinking port will often open of its own accord, spilling all over. In my knapsack, Ive had the drinking port open by itself and leak all over my books and papers. The last time this happened almost the whole 20 ounces got in my bag (because the bag fell over on its side). I went and bought a regular narrow neck nalgene for my bag and the OTG has be relegated to stay with my workout machines at home.

Follow-up: I still use this bottle a lot for working out. Its great on cardio machines because its slim enough to fit the bottle holders but holds a lot and can be opening with one hand. I use green tea mix a lot and the big mouth is nice for mixing. I just dont carry it in my bag. FYI - its too wide for the cup holders in my car.
