Ive had the Nashbar Karriage for 2 years now. Overall I like it but one real bad flaw is the clamp mechanism. It constantly falls off. No matter how much I tighten it, it slips a bit back with each bump and as most bike frames get slimmer as the frame gets closer to the rear wheel...it falls off. The clamp connects UNDER the frame so it has gravity working against it too. I have no children and use the trailer to carry groceries or to ride my 25lb Schipperke around town. The clamp has failed every time Ive used it but the nylon safety strap has saved my groceries and my dog so far but on my last ride the strap just ripped off. Ill continue to use it for grocery runs but I dont trust it with my dog let alone a child. If they would just put a "wrap around" clamp or reverse the clamp so it clamps from the top instead of under the frame I would feel much better about it.
Lastly I use the karriage in a northern climate. I noticed a rusting problem with the spring attached to the clamp as well as the wheel rims rusting. Still works but its not aesthetically appealing.
Overall I like the karriage but the clamp scares the hell out of me now that I know the safety strap can rip off and my dog could go spinning into traffic On: 2008-05-30
I just bought this trailer. Its great for our needs. Ive also pulled a Burley DLite in the past. I looked at a lot of trailers before buying this one and decided that for my needs, this was the best choice. The Burley is easily a better trailer, but the price now is almost $500 more. Is it $500 better than the Nashbar? Not for my needs. My two kids fit in Nashbar, though it is a bit tight, but they seem to enjoy it. The only complaint I have is the trailer connection. It flat out sucks. BUT... That can be fixed buy changing it over to the Burley quick connect hitch. Buy 2 parts for about $20. I plan to order them this weekend. On: 2008-05-27
The unit is well built. Safety is not a concern when you buy something from Nashbar. They do not tell you this has 16 inch wheels. The 20 inch wheel models ride a little smoother for the passengers. The trunk area is smaller than on other models, in case you want to take items, say for a picnic. The clamp that secures onto the adult bike has to be tighened firmly, very firmly. The Karriage fell off the first time I tried to use it. And, most importantly, the inside is only big enough for one child. We have twin daughters. One is 22 lbs and the other is 21 pounds. They just sqeezed in. Buy the end of the summer, this will be much too small for the both of them. We would like to use this product for at least two years, NOT just two months. If you are only going to carry one child, I would recommend this, if you have two children, no way! Do not buy this product. On: 2008-05-27
the product came in pretty good shape. I did notice on one of the top connection where the push pin goes through it looks worn out. no biggie since the rest of the trailer is in new condition. it ride pretty good. i was able to take it on and off the sidewalk down the curb and it didnt tip over. my twins girls were able to fit in it pretty good...some what little tight they are 24 and 22 lbs. all in all happy with the product.
