As the title says, "You get what you pay for". My Vetta RT55 was working perfectly, I saw the E3 F11C with cadence, which my Vetta doesnt have and figured Id give it a try. Nashbar was the seller so it arrived quickly, and was easy to install. When I started to set the computer I knew I was in for an adventure. Both of the buttons used to set mph, time, etc. took multiple times pushing them before they would advance to the next setting. After getting it set it worked O.K. on the first couple of rides with it. Then crazy things started happening, mph was eratic, distance for a known loop I do incorrect. I figured it needed a new battery, replaced battery, reset computer with the same frustating problems previously mentioned, no luck, checked sensor adjustments and all the leads to make sure no problem with them. I just finished putting on the reliable old Vetta in a matter of minutes with no issues what so ever. I dont even want to waste the money on postage to return to Nashbar. Im just going to toss it in the can. Maybe I got a defective one, who knows, but for $20.00 bucks I dont want anymore nonsense. Im glad it has worked well for other folks, but if I want a cyclocomputer with cadence and other features Ill pay more money and save the headache. On: 2009-06-12
For the price of one ($39.95) at the local (Pasadena, CA) Performance Bike shop, I purchased two ($14.95 each plus $7.95 shipping) on Amazon.com. The first one worked for 2 rides (about 20 miles each), then the segments that make up the digits started showing in a random broken way (certain segments just wont show). After talking to my college riding class coach, it was suggested that the battery maybe weak. After changing with a brand new battery, same problem.
I removed the computer unit from the second box and installed on the same bike (used the same wires), the second unit worked flawlessly. I have since put over 400 miles on the bike and the computer showed no problem whatsoever.
I send the first unit back to Performace Bike, and have not received the replacement back yet (over 2 weeks already). 50% failure rate seemed to be high, but for the price, I dont mind buying two and having (at least) one worked.
The unit has every function the coach had asked us to have, so I will give it a 4-star for functionality. But if the computer has max and avg cadence, as the other reviewer has suggested, then it deserves a 5-star for functionality. As for quality, I will not give it anything over 2-stars. On: 2009-06-01
Solid for what it does, no complaints here. It was a little tricky getting the cadence magnet and sensor to communicate, but once it was set up its been fine. I do wish it had avg / max cadence functions, like it does for speed. But it is what it is, and the battery life seems good. No trouble with it at all. On: 2009-04-10
The computer is ok, but the mounting hardware is awful. One size fits one as far as I can tell. Im not sure what type of bike its made for, but definitely not the old mountain bike I bought it for.
