Warning: Kids bike     On: 2008-08-06

The bike arrived with no manual what so ever. It had minor scratches which is annoying for something new, but at least I did not have to worry about the first scratch.

About me: Male 57 190lbs (got the bike to help get that number down).

First real problem I noticed was the breaks did not work. With no manual I took it to a shop to get them adjusted.

I used it for the 1st time on Tue Aug 5th.

Next thing I noticed is it would not shift into the last 2 gears (largest ones in the back... not that anyone would need to use these anyway) but when trying to get it into high the chain came off and got wedged between the gear and frame. A few scraped knuckles later the chain was freed and I managed to find the spot in the middle of the shift which matched up with the smallest rear sprocket.

Back to the shop to get that adjusted. (why I did not request a full inspection the first time I cannot answer).

I did email 2ksilver and they do respond to emails. They sent me a word document that showed how to adjust the breaks and offered to pay my repair bills. I am happy with them as a company.

How do/did I intend to use this bike? I live 4.5 miles from the park and ride where I catch the bus into Dallas. It is another .8 miles from where I get off the bus to my office.

With the breaks and gears working I rode it home and even in the highest gear a small down hill over powered the gears so I spent 1/2 the time coasting. Only once did I have to shift out of the highest gear and that was after a stop light on an uphill slope. Both yesterday and this morning it took about 30 minutes to go the 4.5 miles between the park and ride and my house. The bike would not go any faster.

The bike does not feel like a full sized bike. (20" wheels) With the seat and handle bars at full height I am still cramped.

It does fit on the bus without problems which was the reason for getting this in the 1st place.

If I were to do it again (and I will in 6 months or so) I will get their 26" version.

Get The Real Thing     On: 2008-06-13

The bicycle came shipped without any instructions. A one-page MS Word document would have been fine just to show how to work the latches.

The latches that allow the bike to fold do not work properly, so it is difficult to fold and unfold the bike, which, of course defeats the purpose. I am 61", so the bike is not a comfortable fit for me, so I do not ride it. Keep your money or get a real bike.
