I have the Thomson X2 Stem in 100mm. On a training ride recently I kept hearing a loud creak. Now for the past few months a have been hearing a mystery creak that has been driving me crazy. Well today a started examing the stem and low and behold the faceplate has a crack in it! I love Thomson products. I have had three of their seatposts. But...this is unacceptable. If I had not noticed this crack it could have lead to a very bad day for me. I got home and put on an older Race Face stem and presto...no creak. Amazing! Thomson needs to go back to the drawing board on this item. If you need to have a Thomson stem then get the X4 it almost the same exact stem accept the faceplate has four bolts instead of just two.
