too many parts and its not orange!     On: 2010-02-03

There are 4 parts to this sippy cup and therefore it just takes that little bit longer to put it together and to take apart before and after cleaning. I have a hard time unscrewing the inner part from the bottle and always get frustrated struggling with the stupid thing. My husband just leaves it on and washes those two parts together.
Secondly, I was EXTREMELY disappointed when my sippy bottles arrived because I ordered ORANGE SUNSET and on the website they really did look bright orange and glorious. But when they arrived they were this weird pale brown murky clay kind of color. I thought they had mixed up my order and sent me Diarrhea Brown instead of Orange Sunset by accident!!!
Apart from that this is a decent sippy cup. I have not had any major issues with leaking.
Great idea that needs work     On: 2010-01-11

I love that this is stainless and nontoxic. It is fairly easy to clean.

I dont love that the paint chips easily. I dont love that the stainless steel dent easily, and therefore can become hazardous.

If buying, Id get the stainless steel, paint free one.

If you are the manufacturer, please take the above into consideration, and also add a rubber bottom to prevent the pock marks and dents.
Nice for looks but less practical than "old-fashioned" plastic sippy cup     On: 2010-01-04

We received this as a gift and our son has fun playing with it but is less enthusiastic about drinking from it because there are no handles to grip. I do think the red version we have is a beautiful container and cant wait for our son to use it when he doesnt need leak-proof containers. I found our gifted Kleen Kanteen to leak more than the inexpensive sippy cups.

Beyond the aesthetic appeal of the bottles, I dont understand the "safety" logic of buying one...a good portion of the inside bottle coming into contact with the liquid is plastic and the part your child is drinking from (or chewing on) is plastic. The plastic top of this bottle can break or chip when dropped (see other reviews on this site). How safe is this for a baby if your concern is plastic exposure?

Also with regards to safety, Stainless Steel is known to leach heavy metals, particularly nickel, if pitted. This can be caused from prolonged exposure to acidic foods, so I wouldnt want to use this for orange juice unless it is 18/0 or some other non-nickel type of stainless (0 being nickel content).

Drying the Klean Kanteen was difficult for us because inside the container there is a large lip where the plastic is attached to the metal - we put it upside down to air dry and as soon as we pick it up, even after hours of drying time, liquid drops out of the lip and into the bottom of the container. We have to try to dry it with a towel inside a very small opening and still cant get all the moisture from the plastic lip. This itself could be a good harbinger of bacteria if were looking at safety. I will mostly stick with the "old-fashioned" plastic, BPA-free sippy cups until our son can handle a regular Klean Kanteen. We find the Gerber brand plastic sippy cups are cheap, easy to use, easy to clean and do not leak.

If they made this Klean Kanteen into a vacuum-insulated, completely leak-proof container, I would buy one in an instant. (and yes, we tried the Foogo with no luck - very leaky and tough to clean properly) I am not too concerned about the stainless steel since we dont give acidic liquids to our toddler, so I think leaching of nickel would be a non-issue for our uses - I think this should be a consideration if youre buying this for "safety" reasons and use it for acidic (or salty) liquids.
Comparison of the 3 SS sippy cups     On: 2009-12-31

I own all 3 stainless sippy cups - the Kleen Kanteen, the Thermos Foogoo, and the Safe Sippy. Conclusion: each has its specific use that it is best for. I use the Kleen Kanteen for water, the Foogoo for milk (so my daughter knows what drink she is getting). I like Safe Sippy the least.

My daughter is 17 months and has been using a sippy cup since 5 months.

Kleen Kanteen - 5 stars- my go-to cup and favorite of the three

Pros:
* Easy to assemble and clean (I wash it every day with hot soapy water and a nipple brush to avoid anything growing in the spout)
* Takes the Avent spouts
* Does NOT leak either from the valve or the threads (note to people who say that it just lets water run out - make sure you put the clear valve on the inside!). Also does not leak when she drops it or shakes it.
* You can put a can koozie around it if you need insulation!!!
* Lifelong purchase - When they dont need a sippy anymore, switch out the top.

Cons:
* The black plastic collar that screws in place has broken 4 (Yes! FOUR!) times when my daughter has dropped it. Costs at least $4.50 to replace. Has broken each time on a linoleum floor!
* My daughter has dented the bottom by banging it on the concrete outside. (not really a big deal, just aesthetically not as nice anymore)
* Mine did not come with a lid.

Thermos Foogoo - 3 stars - daily use for milk - great for outings but started leaking after 4 months

Pros:
* The thermos construction keeps milk cold for hours!
* My daughter has dropped this one (or thrown it) and it does not break and only leaks a little milk from the spout (none from the threads).

Cons: Complicated!!! Read the directions!!!
* Valve is 2 pieces, difficult to remove, and dont loose either piece!
* Lid is 2 pieces, can be difficult to align.
* Lid pieces must be aligned perfectly and must be screwed in perfectly (spout exactly 90 degrees from the handles) so that it does not leak from the threads.
* My daughter has dented it.

Other comments:
* When my daughter was younger I liked the smaller volume - a larger size would have been too heavy and my daughter did not drink more than 7 oz of milk at once. Now she drinks more, and a larger cup would be nice. I guess now I just need to take a regular thermos of milk, and a separate sippy cup.
* It did not leak from the spout or threads for many months, as long as it was properly assembled, even if it was stored sideways. However, after 4 months of use, it now leaks a bit. If I put it in my bag, I put the cup in a Ziploc first.

Safe Sippy - 3 stars - Leaky so I use as a backup cup for water - I like the straw that comes with it (would have rated it 2 stars if there was no straw)

Pros:
* Handle is removable (Its kind of cheap and gets in the way, might be useful for the youngest kids)
* Switch out the inside valve with a straw! This is cool - I taught my daughter how to use the straw, so when she is older we will use this cup more.
* Rubber around the outside, so no need for a koozie.

Cons: Leaky! Leaky! Leaky!
* I wonder if the valve on this thing is just inconsistent between each bottle. Mine leaks when it is upside down and my daughter stops drinking and the pressure equalizes. It also leaks if its upside down and gets shaken at all. Some folks complain that it is too hard to get any water out, and others say it is perfect.
* The threads do not leak
* The o-ring is hard to get in and out to clean and you must be careful not to break it in the process.

Great cup, best to get the stainless steel     On: 2009-10-28

I purchased a few of the Kleen Kantines & they are great. They tell you not to wash them often in the dishwasher. I wish I had more time in the day but I dont & use the dishwasher for pretty much every cleaning. So, the paint has chipped. The last ones I ordered are stainless & we wont have that issue. The sippy cup is great but my son prefers my 4 yr old daughters more & she has the sports cap. So, I ordered him his own sports cap one.
great product!!     On: 2009-09-25

I got this for my son and its his favorite sippy cup - its sturdy and BPA free.
Finally, after months of searching, the perfect sippy cup! Edit: Or not!     On: 2009-07-30

Ive tried everything, seriously, at least 8 different types of sippy cups and there was always something wrong with them. The soft spout ones like Born Free or Nubby get upended and squeezed/pulled on so my son gets the entertainment of water going everywhere, the hard but thin ones like the Munchkin or Tilty get bitten through, and most simply arent rugged enough for an active 15 month old that is just as likely to fling the cup as he is to drink. The Kleen Kanteen has the perfect spout. It doesnt leak, it comes with a backup spout, he cant chew through the plastic, and theres no BPA. The only things Ive noticed to be aware of are that because it is metal it sweats like crazy if you put a very cold drink into it, and maybe its just my kid but he tends to drink a few large gulps and then get a bit too much liquid and have to stop drinking for a minute to catch up (it seems easier to suck the drink out than other cups, so I think he needs to get used to it still). Anyway, Ive only had it for a day but I think Ive finally found the holy grail of sippy cups. I love that it has a backup spout and that the body is ready to stand up to what my kid can give it. If youre sick of spending money on cups that have some stupid design flaw then invest in one of these and if your kid is anything like mine youll be able to finally stop spending money on cups that dont work! Im so happy I took a chance on this one!

********EDIT! September 2009**********
Much to my disappointment I have to report that if I could give this fewer stars I now would. Sadly the connecting ring is made out of plastic and I have had to replace it TWICE due to my son tossing it out of a shopping cart or his stroller. It seems incredibly foolish to have such a rugged body with a dumb, cheap plastic connector. I want so much to love this cup because it really is spillproof, but I now have to find some other solution because of a poor design decision. Also foolish: they include two sippy spouts but only one connector. Also, the price of a replacement connector is absurd. I still give this 3 stars due to its spillproofness, and if you have something to attach it with to a stroller then maybe this is the cup for you. I just cant justify the price considering the flaw of the plastic connector. My quest for the perfect cup continues!
great sippy cup     On: 2009-07-06

I bought this for my 8 month old daughter. She can easily hold the cup and drink from the sippy spout. It is small enough to fit in the diaper bag and the avent adapter lets us use any of the other avent spouts that we already had.
unsafe     On: 2009-06-23

I was very pleased to find a sippy cup that doesnt use plastic and also uses Avent spouts, which my babies are used to. However, after a few days of use, I walked in to find one of my babies with paint flecks all over his face - he had chewed on the bottle and a large amount of pain had come off in his mouth! Not safe! We took it back to the store and they gave us another one and within a minute the same thing had happened. I am very disappinted as I wanted to love this product but if the paint comes off this easily it is not safe for use with an infant.
