![]() NiteRider Cherry Bomb LED Tailight, 1 Mile Visability By: NiteRider Average Rating: 3.5 Total Reviews: 5 More Information Outrageously Bright! When I first saw this light @ REI I about blinded myself when I turned it on. Nothing else on their rack o lights even compared to this lights sheer brightness. I knew immediately that it was the light for me as I commute every morning & night in pitch black darkness for nearly six months of the year in Anchorage, Alaska. The land of the midnight sun is anything but in the winter. Anyway, the light is retina-searing bright and obnoxiously flashy. Perfect for visibility. Other reviewers have noted that it easily separates over normal bumps. Based on its construction I agree. Its held together simply by friction. A good bump looks like it will cause it come apart so I "engineered" what I think is a workable solution. I cut a thin strip of double-sided sticky foam and placed in between the 2 AAA batteries. After snapping the case on Ive found it much more difficult to separate the back from the rest of the light. In fact, after my fix, when pulling the light apart the batteries actually stuck to the inside of the case. The friction that holds the batteries in place is greater than the friction keeping the case together. I feel reasonably confident that this fix will keep the pieces together over most terrain. Your mileage may differ. One other note, some reviewers noted the light can only be mounted in the vertical position; I found this to be untrue. If using the seatpost mount, simply turn the light 90 degrees for a horizontal configuration. I also found the light securely clicks into place on its holder, yet is easy to release if you want to take the light with you. Great for blinding your co-workers around the office. fell apart! Although very bright and highly visable, my light has seperated from its back plate (its supposed to seperate here... it snaps apart to change batteries) numerous times... this last time it came apart without my knowledge and the parts are now lost... youd think that for the price theyd figure out a way to fasten the parts together more securely.. almost $30 gone because of poor design... sign me: MIFFED Loose mount I bought 2 of these lights because it was insanely bright. I mounted one on the seatpost of one bike, the other on the seatstay because I have an aero post on that bike. The mount was a little to small to mount without scratching the carbon, but after some adjusting I was just able to make it fit, if somewhat awkwardly. I rode the bike with the light attached to the seatpost, and the light came unclipped from the mount twice! It was evening and I was riding with other riders, so they alerted me when this happened. Had they not been there, I would not have been aware that the light wasnt there. Not a comforting thought when riding in the dark. I give this product 2 stars for the brightness, but the mount is awful. Cherry Bomb vs SuperFlash I am writing this review after purchasing both the NiteRider Cherry Bomb and the Planet Bikes SuperFlash. Both lights work as advertized and are currently brighter than any other lights on the market. At night both lights are bright and will catch any drivers eye with their flash patterns. The difference between the two lights is the NiteRider Cherry Bomb stands out during the day. I placed both of the lights on my bike and had a friend ride the bike to the end of the city block. About half way to the end you would lose sight of the Planet Bikes SuperFlash. I could see the NiteRider Cherry Bomb all the way to the end of the block. After looking at both lights the SuperFlash loses some of its light before it hits the reflector as the LED is set back from it. The NiteRider Cherry Bombs main LED is set with the reflector and the plastic front acts as a light diffuser causing the light to be seen at a greater distance during the daylight hours. There is one drawback to the NiteRider Cherry Bomb, the battery life. The NiteRider Cherry Bomb is only supposed to work for 40 hours before the batteries go dead. The Planet Bikes SuperFlash is slated to run for 100 hours. If you are looking for a light to ride with at night then either light will work for you. If you commute or ride during the daytime on busy city streets and wish to have a light to be seen with, then go with the NiteRider Cherry Bomb. The CherryBomb The NiteRider Cherry Bomb Taillight is quite a bit brighter than the Planet Bike Blinky Super Flash Taillight. By incorporating a custom, multi-directional collimator, the CherryBomb maximizes visibility by dispersing light to the sides of the rider as well as directly to the rear, effectively eliminating blind spots to upcoming automobiles. To further rider safety and visibility, the CherryBomb employs a custom made, built-in reflector which allows the rider to be night time visible even when the taillight is in the off position. Clip and bike mounts are included for mounting options. Flash and Steady modes. I think the Planet Bike Blinky Super Flash Taillight Flashing mode is more attention getting than the NiteRider Cherry Bomb Taillight Flashing mode. Batteries: 2 AAA |
