![]() Leanings: Best of Peter Egan from Cycle World By: Motorbooks Average Rating: 5.0 Total Reviews: 34 Product Description: Since his work first graced Cycle World magazine in 1977, Peter Egan has graciously taken his readers along on his adventures. The range of motorcycle riding reports cover runs along the Mississippi River to New Orleans for a tin of chicory coffee or flying to Japan to test-ride new Yamahas. In Leanings, Egans favorite feature articles and columns have been reprinted for the first time, including his trip cross-country on a British twin with his wife and a journey on the abandoned Route 66, plus many more stories about the open road. Reviews Four stars because of lack of copy editing by: on: 22-Oct 2009 What positive statement can I make that hasn't been said already? But, like all Peter Egan books the copy editor seems to have been doing his job while being chased by an axe murderer. Or maybe he was chasing his secretary around a desk while doing his job. Whatever the reason, there is no copy editing, and the work suffers from embarrassing typos and other rudimentary mistakes. Nice to see that Dan Quayle is working again. Or, maybe the copy editor's entire work day consists of loading the file into Microsoft Word and looking for pink squiggly underlines. Then, back to chasing or being chased or both. Top notch book for motorcyclists! by: on: 16-Oct 2009 I cannot say enough good things about this book. I have read it no less than ten times. Very humerous and great insights and observations. Very easy to read as it is broken down into various articles and features Mr. Egan has written over the years. I have purchased multiple copies to give as gifts to friends and family. A great book to have on the nightstand if you love motorcycles and what they represent to those of us enthusiastic about the life style. Leanings and Leanings 2 by Peter Egan by: on: 17-Jun 2009 This is absorbing reading, even for people not remotely interested in motorcycling. Egan's easy style appeals to those who seek the out-of-the way places and indulge in spur-of-the moment holiday journeys. To the avid motorcyclists these books are a must have. They run a close second to actually mounting up and riding off with saddlebags packed for a weekend in the mountains or at the seaside. Rated as good read, an enjoyable collection of magazine column stories. by: on: 14-Dec 2008 Peter Egan is the author of the Side Glances column in Road & Track magazine and the Leanings column in Cycle World magazine. He is noted by his readers as having a self-deprecating, ironic, and sometimes dark sense of humor, including detailed accounts of the failings of his vehicles.
