Reviews very difficult to put on by: on: 28-Oct 2009 Don't have much material for comparison, but intuitively it seems that fenders should be easier to install. Installation is very sensitive to the method of assembly: threading struts into fenders involves putting 4 slippery things together, and there are very hard and less hard ways of doing this (there is no easy way); instructions more or less show you where you need to be, but don't tell you how to get there: you just have to figure it out, by trial and error. Long story short: total time expenditure 3 hours, with some iffy connections and a zip tie at the bottom bracket end of the rear fender. Tip: taking wheels off helps immensely :-) Fenders themselves: very plasticky. Got silver version to fit the bike other chrome, kind of pretend to be metal - no chance; better off with honest black plastic than very fake-looking plastic silver. Finally : "secureclip" used in front fenders pushes the fender back too much; got rid of it, just use bare strut ends. Nice quality by: on: 16-Oct 2009 I used these fenders on a 20 year old Raleigh 10 speed which had 27 x 1.75 tyres. The fenders fit perfectly - measure the width of the frame to get the best fitting fender. These fenders look very strong and should last many years to come. All the fasteners and the fender stays are plenty strong. I'd buy this product again if I had a 2nd bike. Good fenders by: on: 13-Sep 2009 These fenders mount securely and are fairly adjustable. They might be hard to figure out how to install; I had a head start because I have another bike with an earlier model of the same product installed. But one thing that has changed since the earlier model is a great improvement to the plastic piece that protects the ends of the wire struts. And I struggled to figure out how to put those on. They are very clever, and I very nearly gave up. The instructions are pictures only, and I guess there aren't enough of them and they don't show fine enough detail. Advertisements for this product brag about the "secu-clip" thing that is supposed to release the front fender under some circumstance. Try as I may, I cannot figure out what danger these are meant to prevent. It is easier and more reliable to install without them (which is how the older model works), so that's what I did. I've seen the product advertised as "indestructible." It's not. It will probably last forever when properly installed on a bike, but mine broke when someone shipped the bike with the wheels removed and the fenders still on. The plastic over thin metal material doesn't take much bending before tearing. Okay - with reservations by: on: 02-Aug 2009 If you are not handy with tools have your local bike shop put these on for you. I had to shorten the side struts using bolt cutters. Any install where you have to use bolt cutters is a difficult install. The instructions are poor but you can figure it out. I bought two sets. I just put on the first set and I'm taking a break before the second set. The second set will go faster. The fenders themselves are nice - just a bear to get on. View All ReviewsView All Fenders |
