The outer short looks pretty decent for walking around in public, while the inner short gives you a little padding. The pad is lightweight, and not thick, but it's great for short rides. Also, the outer shell has a zip pocket on the leg for your phone or keys, and since it's not pressed against your body, it doesn't get sweaty like in back pockets. Great shorts.
