Pulleys are Plastic       rating

Like most things Shimano, this derailleur works fine out of the box and is an easy install; however, you should be aware that the jockey and tension pulleys (the two wheels inside the cage)are plastic. I bought this derailleur because it came as stock on a Schwinn bicycle I bought for my wife a few years ago, when, evidently, the pulleys on this model were metal. I installed the one I purchased here on my bike (a Raleigh M-30 mountain bike about 12 years old), but I plan to replace it with a better one as soon as I can afford to do so--I'm afraid it might ruin my cassette. I put about 20 miles a day on my bike (use it to commute to work), so if you don't do that much biking, perhaps it doesn't matter. But it's not stated in the product description.

Good quality for the price. If you're looking to replace your old ones, these are really nice. Be carefull to choose wisely depending on how your current one is mounted though...w or w/o hanger...
An inexpensive and good quality Rear Derailleur that does it's job well       rating

This Rear Derailleur was a breeze to install and works well, I used it to replace the now obsolete RD-TX30 after years of rough use. The price was excellent and together with Shimano quality hard not to pick.

Note: I might consider Shimano's next model up (Acera) next time to see if it makes a difference as the cost difference in absolute terms is not much.

Derailleur was received by me in a bent condition. I straightened it the best I could and it appears to be working fine. I hope it lasts. Item should have been checked prior to being shipped. Need better quality control. Service was fast and always has been.
