Probably best for single speed bikes       rating

I commute by bicycle almost 100% of the time, even in winter (I use studded snow tires then). I wanted something to help keep that nasty chain off my pants leg, since bicycling in the colder months meant that I was usually getting my goretex pants leg caught on the top chainring, even when I used a strap to keep it tight to my ankle. The SKS Chainboard seemed to be just what I needed and indeed it would have been, except that it just didn't fit my bike quite right.

I don't think it's the manufacturer's faulth though- I could see just by holding it up next to my bike that it would be perfect- it WOULD keep the chain from scraping against my pants, and it WOULD keep my pants off the top chainring- but my front derailler just didn't fit around it.

Other than that, it IS a well-made product, it IS very affordable and it WILL do what it is advertised to do. My bike just doesn't fit it well enough to use, and I even took it to my local bike shop to have it installed- just didn't work out for my bike (Specialized Tricross Sport).

If you have a single speed bike, or a bike that doesn't change gears up front, by the pedals, you'll probably love this product.
Not a simple install, but works great once you're done.       rating

I bought one for my 21-speed Jamis Aragon commuter bike. The default setup didn't work as the triple in the front would rub against the chain-guard. I changed the triple chainring on the front to a single and the chain-guard fit right on. I think a double would have fit also. To secure the guard to the frame, I had to remove the attaching hardware from the rear of the chain-guard and move it to another spot. This wasn't hard but required a small allen wrench I didn't have.

Now that it's all set up I'm very happy with this product and I never have problems with grease on my pants any more. IMPORTANT: this is not a simple product to install and you will need to remove the cranks and bearing to do so!
Looks great, but some issues       rating

Looks fantastic on my Cannondale F5, but took a bit of modification to get it to work. A Dremel is basically a necessity to install this, as well as the tools to remove your crank and bottom bracket. To install this you have to trim some of the length off and it slides into the rear part. When installed, it basically shifts your pedals about 1mm to the right, which may make things pretty close if you have a sensor attached to your pedal. Also, your front derailleur will have to be adjusted. It's easy to find instructions to do all these things on the internet. Also, with 3 gears on the crank, the thickness became too much and I can't use the largest gear. I may try to take a chunk out of it where the front derailleur to make things work, but I love the way it looks and it works like a champ, so I may just deal with it. If you don't think you can handle the install yourself, go to your local bike shop and have them do it for you. The quality of the plastic is fantastic and it's worth having on your bike if you wear pants.
Good material and the only thing out there I could find       rating

It's a great product once it's mounted. It keeps my chain/drive train cleaner. I don't have to wear pant bands to keep the dirt/grim off my pants.

I had this put on my commuter/hybrid ('92 Rockhopper). I pulled the front derailer off (to simplify and) so I could get this chain guard on. I had to go to my LBS to have it installed, cause the crank has to be pulled out to get the metal bracket mounted. I had to take off some of the inside plastic with a dremel to keep the chain from rubbing when the chain was in the smallest rear cog.

The odd thing is that it has an opening on the top, if it was closed it would keep more of the weather off the drive train. Maybe it's to accommodate for a front derailer, hadn't thought of that.
