Total Bike Classifieds Sellers:
We have had several reports that a person or multiple people usually claiming to be from out of the United States have been trying to purchase high-ticket items listed on our classifieds. The person usually claims they are an agent for someone else and will send a check for a value larger than the selling price of the item. They will ask you to send back the difference between the selling price and the check amount. The checks that have been sent have been counterfeit. We have updated our classifieds system to prevent one person from sending out fraudulent requests to our sellers.
There have been some fraudulent ads posted in our classifieds system. Some scammers are downloading photos and text from auction sites like Ebay. Others will take photos and specs from a manufacturer's website and claim they have the item. Ask for the serial number of the items that is being sold. Be warry of prices that are "too good to be true". If you see an ad that looks suspect please click the icon of the cop on the page where the item is displayed. We will investigate and remove the ad.
We encourage all sellers and buyers to use a known escrow service like escrow.com or and online payment service like paypal.com. If you accept a check or money order make sure that it clears before shipping the item. Be extra cautious of people using free email accounts like hotmail or yahoo. Fraudulent information can be used to get these type of account.
